Psst

Privacy

Short version: the app never goes online, and this website keeps no record of you.

The app

Psst has no network code. It does not send, receive, collect or store any data about you or your usage. It writes a log file on your own Mac (~/Library/Application Support/Psst/psst.log) with lines like “mic on (com.apple.VoiceMemos), muted”, so you can see what it did. The log never leaves your Mac.

Psst asks macOS for the permission “System Audio Recording”. It needs this because muting works through a Core Audio process tap, which macOS counts as audio capture. Psst never reads audio from the tap. You can withdraw the permission at any time in System Settings, Privacy & Security, Screen & System Audio Recording.

Your rights and contact

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, objection, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Since Psst stores nothing about you, there is usually nothing to act on, but you can always ask.
